First, plug the ac adapter to the socket or outlet before connected to the battery. Otherwise it won’t get a stable power energy. Besides, you can remove the battery if a laptop charger is available. Certainly it will make you at the risk of automatic shut. Second, if your laptop battery hasn’t been used for a long time, or it is the first time to use, such as toshiba laptop battery, it should be discharged completely and recharged for a long time. Even if it is a li-ion battery, there’s still memory effect exists. Otherwise, it won’t produce the best possible results. Third, Ni-cd and Ni-mh batteries should be fully discharged and recharged at least once a month. As to the li-ion laptop battery, it must be recharged when the remaining power is about 20-30%. Frequent fully discharging will damage the battery and reduce the lifespan. In the process, try to keep the external power supply stable instead of unplugging. Next, if you will leave it for a long time, you should store it properly. The correct way is to remove it from the laptop and then pack it in a sealed bag under a cool and dry circumstance.
